Norwegian Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Braut Haaland was announced on Saturday as the winner of the 2020 Golden Boy Award.

The prize is awarded each year to the best Under-21 player playing in the Premier League of a European country.

Haaland took home the coveted award ahead of Barcelona and Spain’s Ansu Fati and Canadian Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.

The Norwegian signed for Borussia Dortmund in December 2019 and has since scored 27 goals in 29 appearances for the German side.

Other youngsters nominated for the 2020 Golden Boy Award include Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, among others.

Joao Felix of Atletico Madrid was the former winner of the award in 2019.

Erling Haaland (Norwegian pronunciation: / æɭɪŋ ˈhɔːlɑːnd /; Leeds, England, United Kingdom, July 21, 2000) is a Norwegian footballer who plays as a forward for Borussia Dortmund of the German Bundesliga and for the Norwegian national football team. . Praised as a prolific scorer endowed with great speed and skill, he has often been regarded as one of the best young players in the world.4 5

Haaland is an absolute international with the Norwegian national team since 2019. Between 2015 and 2018 he was international in the lower categories with Norway, playing the 2019 U-20 Soccer World Cup where he won the Golden Boot.

Erling Braut was born in Leeds, England, when his father, footballer Alf-Inge Håland, was playing professionally in the Premier League.6 Following his father’s forced retirement, the family returned to Norway. He began practicing athletics, setting the world record for the long jump for a 5-year-old by jumping 1.63 m. He also practiced other sports such as handball or cross-country skiing until he was fourteen years old.

Haaland started at the Academy of the club of his host city, Bryne. During the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Haaland played for the Bryne 2 Reserves team, where he impressed scoring 18 goals in 14 matches.9 his performances with the reserves led him to debut, at the age of 15, with the first team on 12 May 2016 in a match of 1. divisjon against the Ranheim.10 while at Bryne, he made an unsuccessful test with the German Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Haaland played 16 games for Bryne FK.9

On 1 February 2017, Molde FK announced the signing of Haaland.11 Ole Gunnar Solskjær made his debut on 26 April 2017 in the Norwegian Cup match against Volda TI. In addition, he scored his first goal in a meeting ending in a 3–2 win.12 His debut in the league came on June 4, 2017 versus Sarpsborg 08 FF, when he entered as a substitute in minute 71.13 Haaland scored the victory on 77 minutes, his first goal in Eliteserien. Haaland scored his second league goal of the season on 17 September, against Viking Stavanger FK, in a 3–2 win. After the goal, he received criticism from his team-mate Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson for celebrating it with the opposing fans.14 Haaland finished his first season in Molde with 4 goals in 20 appearances.

On 1 July 2018, Haaland scored 4 goals against SK Brann in the first 21 minutes of the match, securing his team a 4–0 victory over the then unbeaten league leaders. He converted the hat-trick in 11 minutes and 2 seconds and the four goals in 17 minutes and 4 seconds. A Manchester United scout was present at that match.1516

In the following match, played on 8 July, Haaland continued his scoring streak by scoring two goals and providing an assist in the 5–1 win against Vålerenga Fotball.17 on 26 July he scored a penalty in Molde’s 3–0 victory in the UEFA Europa League against K. F. Laçi .18 due to an ankle sprain, Haaland did not participate in Molde’s last three league games of the season.19 for his performances in the Eliteserien 2018, Haaland received the award for best appearance of the year. He finished the 2018 season as Molde’s top scorer with 16 goals in 30 matches in all competitions.20

Red Bull Salzburg
On 19 August 2018, Red Bull Salzburg announced the signing of the Norwegian striker who would be effective from 1 January.21in his first campaign with the Austrian club he played five matches, in which he managed somewhat against LASK Linz on 12 May.22

On 17 September 2019, he scored a hat-trick against Genk (6–2) on the opening day of the Champions League.23tras scoring in his first five Champions League matches-eight goals -, equalled a record held by Alessandro Del Piero since 1995.2425

On December 29, 2019, Borussia Dortmund made official the transfer of the striker in exchange for about 20 million euros.26january 18, he made his Bundesliga debut against Augsburg (3–5), scoring a hat-trick in just twenty minutes.27in the following day he scored a brace against FC Köln, becoming the fastest footballer in Bundesliga history to achieve five goals (56 minutes) beating Paco Alcácer.28february 18 scored a brace in the win (2–1) against PSG in the first leg of the knockout stages.29

On 16 May, in the first match after the Coronavirus pandemic, he scored the first goal of the match against FC Schalke 04 (4–0) and reached his tenth goal in the domestic competition.30
